What is a compute manager?
A compute manager, for example, vCenter Server, is an application that manages resources such as hosts and VMs. In the current release only vCenter is supported
NSX-T Data Center polls compute managers to collect cluster information from vCenter Server. This helps with the auto deployment of new nodes within a cluster for example
Is it required? No you can add standalone hosts but you loose the ability to standardise cluster deployments
Prerequisites
A Service account, if you’re running this in a lab, the administrator@ssodoamin account is more then adequate
In a large corporate environment were the security principles state that each user/or service account must have the minimum permissions required then the following Virtual Center permissions are required:
Extension.Register extension |
Extension.Unregister extension |
Extension.Update extension |
Sessions.Message |
Sessions.Validate session |
Sessions.View and stop sessions |
Host.Configuration.Maintenance |
Host.Local Operations.Create virtual machine |
Host.Local Operations.Delete virtual machine |
Host.Local Operations.Reconfigure virtual machine |
Tasks |
Scheduled task |
Global.Cancel task |
Permissions.Reassign role permissions |
Resource.Assign vApp to resource pool |
Resource.Assign virtual machine to resource pool |
Virtual Machine.Configuration |
Virtual Machine.Guest Operations |
Virtual Machine.Provisioning |
Virtual Machine.Inventory |
Network.Assign network |
